Rafting
ADVENTURE, FUN AND SECURITY AT THE PARAIBUNA RIVER!
This is the right receipt for whom might be tired of the average leisure programs of big cities. The wish for strong sensations, lots of action and emotion has being awakening the interest for the eco adventure. One of the most looked for programs is rafting, which is basically descending the rapids of rivers on inflatable skiffs, very popular in terms of radical fun in other countries.
In Brazil, a sensational kind of rafting is offered by Aventur Turismo:
navigating the rapids of the Paraibuna river, considered to be one of the
best of the country for practicing this kind of sports. The navigated area
is located at the district of Três Rios, at the boundary between the states
of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
The course is surrounded by the beautiful "eyelash" woods, characteristic of
the river borders of the region, and you will be part of it while it
endures - from two and a half up to 4 hours. Everything looks so peaceful .
and as you think that the security measures were excessive, comes the first
rapid: a fall of three to five meters, depending on the rivers discharge and
on the years season!
When the water level is above normal, the rapids increase in height. On the
other hand, when it's beyond normal, they gain on strength, turbulence and
speed. The adventure's just started! It's said that for you, already a
"veteran", it gets really exciting as you look at the boat
following yours on it's way down the river, watching the horror expressions
and hearing the screaming greenhorns!
In order to regain breathing, no better than listening to the curious
stories about local rafting told by the rowers but, attention! At anytime, a
short alert from the oarsman about to hold the lashings and to get in
position, is a signal that rapids may be close.
To relax, everything is permitted, and in some sections there will be a
recovering stop to take a river bath. At the first plunge just let yourself
drift slowly down the river. On the second section, known as the Devils
Throat, it gets tougher as you'll have to swim against the stream and ward
off the rocks you meet in your way, strictly following the orientation given
by your guide.
Ahead, there's the "S bend", on which the boat slaloms among the rocks;
after countless rapids, when you are getting used to them, comes the
ultimate (the best happens always at last!!). The last fall: "Hollywood"!
Yes sir, the one reminding the filming set of an old cigarette commercial.
Keep your strength for the best: surfing against the stream.
OK, now relax! The adventure comes to it's end disembarking at the Pontal
Restaurant where the three rivers Paraiba do Sul, Piabanha and Paraibuna
meet, the last one naming the district.
Everyone is soaked to the skin and ready to heat up with the famous "batida"
, a drink made out of "pinga", a home made firewater mixed up with season
fruits. It's said that there are people who go through this amazing
adventure just to have a "batida".
After a recovering hot bath at the dressing room comes lunchtime: salads made out of the best fresh local produced vegetables and
home made desserts.
Accomplishing the event, for whom is still awake, participants are called in
order to get the
CCBF - Certificate about courage, bravery and fearlessness, a recognition
of victory given to the rafter who conquered the rapids of the Paraibuna
river. OK! Now all participants may call "Old Indy" a partner.
Rafting on the Paraibuna river offers rapids from levels 3 and 4, ideal for
beginners and intermediates.
We provide security during the whole course on kayaks.
Modalities:
Choose your modality!
There are three of them at your disposal, so one shall fit your fun style.
Modality Sport: It's kind of rafting from which everyone participates
actively, rowing all course long, having an instructor at the rudder, just
guiding the boat.
Forbidden for youngsters less than 16 years old and not indicated for elder
people.
Modality Leisure: rafting in boats conducted by experienced instructors,
which row from a central tackle all course long, leaving the emotions of the
navigation to the group.
Duck: an inflatable kayak for two people (an instructor and a tourist). It's
stability permits good control in the rapids. It is a good option for
beginners in rafting - but already adventure sports performers. It's more
challenging than rafting.
